Warcraft Player Versus Player Secrets – Mage Basics

If you want your Mage to win big in PvP combat, you need to understand the class’s player versus player strengths and weaknesses. This knowledge is the fundamental secret to PvP success. Really understanding this lays the foundation for all the more sophisticated strategies and clever tricks you may want to employ later. Without that firm foundation of understanding, you’ll only be able to go so far. You’ll never become part of the elite. Let’s talk about Mage PvP strengths first.

Mage PvP Strengths

As you might imagine, the strength of a Mage in PvP is the ability to zap your enemies with magical attacks from great distances. Most enemies will need to close with you quickly if they’re going to have any chance of taking you out. And they will do everything in their power to get at you. But your Mage’s freezes and stuns let you immobilize unlucky targets long enough to really unload on them. With a well-executed attack, you can take down most enemies in seconds.

Mage PvP Weaknesses

Unfortunately for you, your Mage also has a major weakness in Player versus Player combat. Physically, your Mage is a wimp. A wimp with virtually no armor and no ability to heal himself. If they get close enough to hit you in melee, you are dead meat. You have almost no ability to survive a physical attack, nor any way to recover from one if by some miracle you survive it. Spells from the Frost branch of your talent tree can offer some protection, but even under ideal circumstances, your Mage will always be extremely vulnerable to melee fighters.

So how was that for the 2-minute summary of Mage PvP strengths and weaknesses? It is enough to get you started, but you you really want to dominate in PvP, you need to learn so much more. A top-notch PvP guide can give you far more information, including specific instructions for dealing with foes that can counter your primary attacks.
